Day 20 Genesis Chapters 25-26
Enjoy your Sunday today as you draw closer to the Lord in worship of His Holiness. Keep reading, friends, in God's Holy Word. You are welcome to post comments on the day's reading at any time, also!
As with all our reading so far, these two chapters are packed with many noteworthy lessons!
At the end of Abraham's life, both Isaac and Ishmael buried him - they were reunited somehow presumably by Abraham.
Jacob and Esau - the warring twins of Rebekah and Isaac - one parent favored one, one parent favored another. Esau said he was starving (hardly likely) and sold his birthright for a bowl of lentil stew, and the Bible says Esau "despised his birthright."
Isaac repeats in his generation what his father, Abraham, did in his generation (twice) - Isaac says his wife is his sister. Abimilech discovers that Rebekah is his wife.
Then, it says (Gen 26:12) "Now Isaac sowed in that land and reaped in that year a hundredfold. And the Lord blessed him." This, to me, shows that God forgives sin if we repent and He blesses us still. Consequences remain, but our lives can be restored and blessed. Again - the mercy of God is shown.
Examples of people who either followed God or did not - examples of people who repented when they sinned or did not - good guidance from God's Holy Word again on how we are to live our lives.
I tried to post last night and it wouldn't work... I thought it was wonderful how we always think of the covenant being between Abraham and God but it was with Sarah as well. Not the servant and not the new wife just with Sarah. All the more glory to God that way He is so amazing!
