Day 8 Job Chapters 17-20

We have only been Eating Bread Together for a week and my how the Lord has blessed. Keep going brothers and sisters! Remember more people are reading with us than are writing on the comments. Those of you that are not commenting and would like to start remember that it is a great encouragement. This is a great place for questions too.

  1. Good morning, friends -

    In these chapters, I clearly see Job fully distressed, then summoning strength from the knowledge of His redeeming God, then the answers (rebukes) from his friends (Zophar and Bildad).

    In chapter 17, Job is laid low and then with a ray of bright hope in the midst of darkness says in verse 9, "Nevertheless the righteous will hold to his way, and he who has clean hands will grow stronger and stronger." His hope (as ours) comes from the living, preserving God. He know this - even though his body is wasting away.

    In chapters 18 and 19, Bildad talks about the wicked and people who don't know God.

    In chapter 20, Job musters up more courageous, strong belief (I see him laid low on the ground in suffering and then standing to say such important words in verses 25-26), "As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last He will take His stand on the earth. Even after my skin is destroyed, yet from my flesh I shall see God."

    Hallelujah! Job maintains his strong faith through harsh suffering - he holds onto the unchangeable truth of God's redemption and God's provision.

    What a lesson in perseverance! What a lesson in holding on to the knowledge of God's goodness through any circumstances!

  2. Oh - and on a more informal note -

    Through reading Job, I hurt for him and want to say, 'It's okay, buddy! We know what God allowed this really - and you will get through this! We know how this will end - and you will be blessed for your endurance and strong faith in the one true God. Keep going, buddy! You will make it!"

  3. Another great bible reading today! How kindness leaves us when we suffer or when we are insulted pride oh pride. All the time God is loving Job and is in control. Job hangs to hope, his faith is real. 25"As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives,
    And at the last He will take His stand on the earth.
    26"Even after my skin is destroyed,
    Yet from my flesh I shall see God;
    27 Whom I myself shall behold,

  4. Susie funny we both put the verses about my Redeemer lives. I didn't read yours until after I wrote mine. Yeah I would love to just sit with Job and listen and pray with him the that Lord would take away his suffering but that even if he dose not that He will be glorified... You can see how being in the Word all the time will effect the way you live your life day to day. SO thankful for this journey in the Word of God together!

  5. Amen to Susie's and Heather's comments. Funny, John and I had the same verse jump out at us. However, I noticed another issue that is being dealt with here. That issue is making judgments as to why someone is suffering or any kind of judgement about another person's life. We do not know the heart and we do not know what God in His sovereignty is doing in that person's life. We, as Job will finally learn, should keep our focus on our redeemer, Christ Jesus.

  6. I agree, Marsha! The lesson of not judging - but rather being a friend - speaks loud and clear in Job!

  7. Mom that is what I have been getting throughout for sure. This book has shut my mouth. No matter what, God is in control. Leaves me with questions in prayer (i know He will answer or reveal in His word) when is it time to rebuke and when is it time to hold the hand and keep the mouth shut.. One thing that always comes back to me that Nancy S. said " before I open my mouth I should think is what I am about to say (do) give glory to God?" My stop and think button doesn't work very well! and what my mom always says about our "words being powerful" (the Word of God says this as well) But though this walk in the Work I know I am growing in Him!! To HIS glory!!!! Wonderful!!!! I am so thankful to be eating with some of the most loving, beautiful, and real women I know!
